28 YEARS AGO….
In 1996, Ken Darrow, the visionary President and Founder of Dartronics, found himself at a pivotal moment in his career. After nearly a decade spent honing his skills with a New Jersey distributor of packaging materials and machinery, he couldn’t overlook the myriad business opportunities slipping through his fingers. Fueled by a mix of ambition and frustration, Ken made the bold decision to break free from the constraints of his job and establish Dartronics, Inc. Importantly, he wasn’t embarking on this journey alone; many loyal clients he had cultivated over the years were eager to follow him to his new venture, which began in the humble surroundings of his basement office.
Among these clients was one who presented a unique challenge: they needed a machine capable of feeding legal documents for serialization with a printer. At that time, such a machine simply didn’t exist on the market. Undeterred, Ken took it upon himself to solve this problem. Within three short months, he applied his ingenuity and technical expertise to design and construct the very machine his client needed. The result was the innovative bate stamp machine, which he sold to the client for $50,000 each—a substantial investment in a solution that had never before been available. This successful endeavor not only fulfilled the client’s request but also marked the beginning of Dartronics’ reputation as a premier specialist in packaging automation, showcasing Ken’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
